At Captains Hat Co. we believe adventure isn't reserved for mountaintops and distant horizons. (Having said that, if that tickles your fancy, get after it! We're with you all the way.)

Lets not forget the early morning commute to work. The weekend camping trips where your tent floods and you need to quickly pivot to sleeping in a van that is NOT designed for sleeping in. The winding back road you've never taken before, or the same beaten path you take every day to and from your local coffee shop. It's choosing to spend more time outdoors, more time exploring, and more time connected to the natural world. Theres adventure everywhere, in the extraordinary as-well as the mundane.

Our goal is simple: to design premium headwear that blends timeless style with practical durability, so you can wear it wherever life takes you. Or better still, wherever you take your life. From city streets to country trails, our hats are made to go where you do.

Why We Do It

We started this brand because we believe the outdoors should be enticing to everyone. Just as importantly, it should be accessible to everyone.

In a world increasingly dominated by fast fashion and disposable products, we wanted to create something different. Something that encourages people to spend more time outside. To embrace adventure in all its forms, the extraordinary and the mundane and to choose products that are built to last.

We believe great headwear should be more than just an accessory. It should be a part of your story. The trusty companion that sticks beside wherever you're head is headed, and whatever adventure you've got planned. 

What We Use

Our hats are crafted from premium Australian wool — a natural material chosen for both its quality and its environmental benefits.

Australian wool is renewable, biodegradable, and naturally durable. Unlike many synthetic materials, it can return to the earth at the end of its life rather than remaining in landfill for generations.

Did you know wool can be dropped at textile recycling bins to be broken down and spun into new yarn or recycled into insulation?

We also choose wool because it performs exceptionally well in the outdoors. In short, it'll keep your noggin toasty through the Winters, and cool through the Summers, last a long time with good care, and won't hurt the planet. 

The result is headwear that feels as good as it looks — built from nature and designed to be worn for years, not seasons.

Looking Forward

We constantly want to be pushing the boundaries of what sustainable headwear can be. Moving from sourcing and using Australian wool to locally grown Aotearoa wool is a big goal. Moving to using as much as possible, 100% if we can, throughout our products is also a big goal.  

By combining premium natural materials, thoughtful design, and timeless styling, we're creating hats that are ready for everyday adventures and adventurers while helping shape a more responsible future for fashion.
